Playing our part

As part of its policy of corporate and social responsibility (CSR), Map of Medicine is currently working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide eHealth technologies to the developing world.

Our involvement is under the umbrella of  WHO’s ‘Sharing eHealth Intellectual Property for Development’ (SHIPD) initiative, designed to let developing countries share the potential healthcare benefits that technology is making possible.

The Map of Medicine was the first e-health intellectual product chosen by SHIPD and is being provided to six African countries: Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Cameroon and Kenya. The pilot involves training clinicians in 11 pilot sites on the use of the Map with particular attention being paid to the HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis pathways.

Under the collaboration agreement, WHO supports planning, development, delivery, country implementation and marketing of the project. Funding agencies are supporting hardware purchases, connectivity, content development and training. Map of Medicine is taking responsibility for pilot training, providing a free licence, supporting the overall project management and strategic planning.
